Edge of Anarchy

Croyden the ranger received a mysterioius note, summoning him to a meeting with the promise of revenage against the cruel old criminal, Gaedren Lamm. Eagerly he awaited the requested time, being the first to arrive. Moments after he arrived his buddy Siegfried, an oracle, stumbled in after passing the time with perhaps just one too many tankards of ale. Mcsquizzy, a fellow ranger and ex slave of Gaedrens was the next to appear, pleased to be able to assist in the demise of his evil ex-captor. Another ex slave of Gaedrens, Jo-Jo the rouge silently appeared next to Mcquizzy, lazily cracking his knucles and waiting to spring into action. Phlegm, a druic treesinger and his flower daisy was the last to join the party.

Once the players were gathered around the table, they noticed another cryptic message. The ring leader of their meeting had stepped out and left them with bread and wine. The five would-be compaions spent the time visiting, speculating on who left the note and where Gaedren was.

Soon enough an attractive middle aged Varisian woman with long dark hair enters the room and introduces herself as Zellara. She begins to spin a story of what happened to her and how Gaedren has wronged her. Then she tells the peice of information all have been waiting for….Gaedrens address.

The group is determined to take their fight to him immediately – leaving the house and headnig straight to the docks. Gaedren is holed up in the Old Fishery.

The building is abysmal, the stench of rotton fish and fungus sting the eyes. Orphans are still slaving over vats and troughs. Conditions are so poor in these rooms that as many orphans die to disease as they do to mistreatment at the hands of the thugs. Jo- Jo stealths in and sees a familar sight: Hookshanks, a terrible gnome lashing out at the orphans in anger and abuse. In one silent movement he slits the gnomes throat, his lifeless body falls to the ground in a pool of blood.

One by one the group clears the Old Fishery, collecting loot on their way. Unable to find Gaedren inside the fishery, they place their bet on him being nearby. An old slippery, wooden dock wraps around to an old half sunken barge. Carefully they balance their way across the dock, mindful of the shark swimming in circles around the dock, eyeing the movement closely.

Inside the barge they battle a sly, poisonous spider and Phlegm skillfully harvest the poisons from the spiders massive body.

Finally on the bottom of the boat, they discover another slippery walkway that leads to a wooden door that leads into an understructor below the fisherys landbound half.

In here they find the evil Gaedren Lamm and his hostile pet alligator, Gobblegut. The fight is a long, Gaedren afterall is no pushover. But eventually their youthful age and skill outmatches Gaedrens old frail body.

Justice has been restored, revenge has been taken! The group excitedly searches the room for treasure, in a twisting revelation they find Zellara’s severed head…with the ammount of flies surroudning the box, it’s doubtful this is a recent development….

A City Gone Mad...

Upon returning from the depths of the wretched fishery, the group (who really needs a name) was shocked to see the city that they love in turmoil. Riots and angry mobs are everywhere, making the streets to crowd to walk through. Imps and pseudodragons battle overhead, mad prophets are on every street corner declaring “The END IS NEAR!”
It does not take long for the group to discover the reason behind the madness, King Eodred II is dead. Indeed, it is a sad day for Korvosa.
The group is stuck. Reluctant to return to Zellara’s and unable to sell any loot with the riots happening, they inspect the silver brooch. After asking around they discover it belongs to the queen. With nowhere else to go, they make their way to Castle Korvosa, to return the brooch.
After an interesting discussion with the queen they are ushered to Citadel Korvosa to meet with Field Marshall, Cressida Kroft.
As they left the castle the streets had quieted, yet the tension in the air was electric. Marshall Law is declared and Hellknights, the Sable Company, and the Korvosan Guard.
Kroft is a pleasant yet blunt director. Seeing that her plate was full, the group quickly accepted to help her find a missing guard who had gone rouge and was in danger of upsetting the minimum amount of balance that had been regained.
The party was able to track down Verik Vancaskerkin at a meat store. A sign bearing the image of a fat, smiling cow hangs above the entrance and read “All the World’s Meat”
After asking around the group found out that the store handed out free meat to anyone who walked into the store and looked like they needed it. They also learned that were they to ask for “the night’s special cuts” the thugs on the main floor would hire themselves out as mercenaries.
The group, sensing something wrong – quickly discovered the meat was human. The thugs were no match for the group, and they quickly made their way to through the store. Verik was on the top floor of the store and quietly surrendered when he realized what his thugs were up to.

The Ambassador's Secret

After returning Verik to Cressida Kroft, she invites you in her office and introduces you to a man named Vencarlo.
Vencarlo gushes that Korvosa needs more people like you and tells each of you how great you are. As much as Cressida agrees, she has another quest for you.
“As much as I would enjoy continuing the conversation, I fear we just don’t have time. Vencarlo has often come to me with news of important changes on the streets, and this is no different – indeed, what he’s learned could degrade into sanctions, embargos, or even war against Cheliax if we don’t act now. This problem is a man named Darvayne Gios Amprei. You might have heard of him- he’s an ambassador from Cheliax whose disdain for Korvosa is well documented, and yet he’s taken great pleasure in what our city has to offer. Even before this recent unrest, this man was ready to recommend to his government a sanction on trade, or perhaps even an embargo. Vencarlo has learned through his own considerable sources that Ambassador Amprei’s actual goals are to undermine Korvosa’s economy to the point where he can buy up large portions of the city from desperate landholders and establish himself in a position of power here. Whatever the ambassador’s reasons, we can’t let his bias or personal plans hurt Korvosa. Yet neither can we take drastic action-not only would killing him be wrong, but it’d simply martyr him in Cheliax’s eyes.

Fortunatley, Darvayne has his foibles. Again, Vencarlo has leanred that Ambassador Amprei has been making fairly regular visits to a place in Old Korvosa called Eel’s End. This den of vice is run by a dangerous man named Devargo Barvasi, better known in Korvosa’s alleys as the King of Spiders. I’d love to put Barvasi out of business, but he pays his vice taxes regularly and never causes any problems – in fact, since he keeps his business constrained entirely within the five ships moored at Eel’s End, he’s actually one of the least of my worries. Truth be told I can’t decide whether Devargo is a stirge or a kraken. He seems like a bloodsucking pest most days, but sometimes I fear just how far his tentacles have wormed their way into our great city. In this case thought, his insidious web stretching across Korvosa’s underworld might prove to be to our advantage.
Devargo would never let someone he recognizes as an ally of the guard into Eel’s End, but your group’s a different case. I’d like you to pay a visit to Eel’s End and secure an audience with Devargo. Find out what he knows about Amprei, get proof of any illicit goings on the ambassador might be involved with, and bring that proof to me to use to undermine any forth coming attempts by him to get Cheliax to cut us off. Devargo might not be willing to party with his information easily. I’ll supply you with some gold to bribe him, and whatever’s left over you can keep for yourself. Remember: the man is dangerous, but so are you – if things get violent, I wouldn’t mourn his passing.
